Answer: Design a better one.
Silicone is the new favorite tool of cooks everywhere because nothing sticks to it. Foods release easily, improving both the cooking and clean-up experience.
Cynthia VanRooy was frustrated when she couldn't find a nonstick silicone and fiberglass baking mat to fit her standard medium size cookie sheet. While medium 10 x 15 inches is the most common size cookie sheet in stores, the mats for sale in the same stores are designed to fit a half-size baking sheet. That refers to half a professional baking sheet, something that is still larger than a medium cooking sheet.
Another major complaint with the mats available at the time was the discoloration that developed after a few uses from baking deeply colored foods like sweet potatoes and tomato-based dishes that left stains.
VanRooy figured others were having the same difficulty she was finding a baking mat they were happy with. When she decided to develop her own and go into business the Crownport brand was born
After testing multiple samples and consulting with numerous factories, she found a factory that would manufacture the baking mats to her own stringent specifications. At 9.75 x 14.75 inches the Crownport Baking Mat fits perfectly in a 10 x 15 inches medium cookie sheet.
And the discoloration problem doesn't happen with the Crownport mats either because, unlike the white fiberglass of a lot of other mats, the Crownport mats are what VanRooy calls "café-au-lait" colored fiberglass with a border of cocoa brown. Stains don't show.
VanRooy says response of early users has been enthusiastic and she is looking forward to growing the Crownport brand.
