Wine decanting is a process of transferring the wine from the bottle to the receptacle. This is done for two main reasons. The first is that the process of decanting (or aerating) allows the wine to mix with oxygen, thus releasing the full flavour of the wine. The second reason we decant wine is to separate any possible sediment from the liquid, which can leave a rather disagreeable taste in the mouth.
