Less is best, because you can always add more water, but you don't want a big coffee mess on your counter. Once you've done it a few times, you'll get the hang of it. Clean up with this coffee maker is super easy as well. I turn it upside down and tap it on the edge of my compost bin. I could even take it directly out to my garden, I suppose. A quick rinse with hot water, and the left over coffee grounds go down the drain (bonus if you don't have a garbage disposal - coffee grounds are abrasive and scrub the pipe innards for you). Since coffee is oily, and the pores will probably clog, I will give the coffee dripper a good scrub with some grease cutting soap a few times a month".
