(SanDiego.CityRegions.Com, February 08, 2015 ) Oceanside, California -- One of the first big retail days after the Christmas holiday is Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day is celebrated throughout the United States, in Great Britain, Mexico, United Kingdom, France, Australia, and Canada. The romantic holiday dates back to the 17th century and became very popular by the mid 18th century. Friends and couples celebrated by exchanging small gifts. The same holds true today. However, the gifts of today can be as small as a single rose or as large as a dream home. The one goal most buyers have in common is giving a gift that is unique and unexpected to the person receiving it.
Product sales on traditional Valentines' Day gifts can double or triple during the days or weeks leading up to the holiday. One such business gearing up for the holiday weekend sale is The eHsense Company. "Every once in a while Valentine's Day falls on a weekend. That means more people are able to celebrate over the course of multiple days" according to Cydney, a spokesperson for the ehsense Company in Carlsbad, California. She went on to say, "we are selling body oil. What is more romantic than sharing a sensual massage oil? Buying it is a win, win. Buyers can use it together or wrap it up and give it to someone as a beauty item or couple's gift". Cydney concluded by saying, "we are selling something that is practical with a little romance".
Another contributor to increased sales is many couples purchase multiple gifts or a sequence of gifts like flowers, chocolates, and dinner topped off with candles and a massage. Keep in mind most if not all businesses who sell gift products understand this concept and prepare themselves to capitalize on the Valentines' Day Shopping Spree. So what does one consider unique and/or romantic? It really is a matter of personal opinion. What is romantic to one person may not be romantic to another.
There are traditional gifts like chocolates, flowers, jewelry, cologne, perfume, and expensive dinners. On the other hand there are also unique feel good gifts that are also romantic like spa days, therapeutic oils, candles, body scrubs, and homemade dinners. eHsense Company as well as other business owners know each of these products have the potential to sell out on Valentine's Day.
