It is rusty, so what ferrous and that works up the taste of the drinks that fill the mugs. That is considered by most as an enrichment of the taste. For others it is not so much enriching. Besides, we didn't want the material of the mug to limit its uses. We thought while copper is the very factor that makes the mugs a prize possession, why not customize it to fit variable uses."
Those who have a very strong sense of odor might find it difficult to have espresso smelling slightly of copper. That is the reason why some people like to have their cups attired with a protective coating in between. It came up in the company's suggestion box from the users and that is when Buxxu decided to oblige. The copper mugs are made available in both the varieties respecting the different tastes of the users. The company didn't want to disappoint the real solid copper mugs lovers, which is why it introduced a nickel lining version of the mugs for those who appreciate the aesthetics of the items but can't do with the coppery taste.
